Privacy Policy

How Worta uses and protects your information, and the choices you have.

Please read carefully

Prospera Finance Limited is the data controller responsible for personal information processed in connection with Worta. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect information when you visit our website, use our app or engage with our services.

It also explains the lawful bases for processing, how long information is kept and how you can exercise your rights. This policy applies to account users, prospective customers, merchants, website visitors and people who contact our team.

01Information we collect

We collect information that is necessary and relevant to the service you request and our legal obligations. Personal, contact and identity-verification information may include your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, government-issued identification, Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN) and proof of address. For business customers, this may include Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration documents and relevant business information.

We process wallet and account information, transaction histories and POS settlement records. For merchant and terminal services, we may process application details, business and terminal location details and information needed to assess, configure and support terminal arrangements. We also process information you provide for loan assessments, product enquiries, complaints and support requests.

Identity-verification providers may perform facial or liveness checks as part of KYC verification. These checks are distinct from biometric sign-in on your device. Device biometric authentication does not mean that Worta collects your fingerprint or face templates for login.

Technical information may include device details, IP address and information about how you access and use our website, app and services. We also process website enquiries, email correspondence and your consent and marketing preferences where you provide them.

02Why we use information and our lawful bases

Contract and steps at your request. We use necessary information to open and administer your account, provide requested services, process transactions, respond to product enquiries and take steps you ask us to take before entering an arrangement.

Legal obligations. We process information to meet applicable identity-verification, Know Your Customer (KYC), anti-money-laundering and regulatory-reporting requirements, and other obligations imposed by law.

Legitimate interests. Where appropriate, we process information for proportionate security and fraud prevention, customer support, audit and service improvement. We consider your rights and interests when relying on this basis.

Consent. Where required, we seek consent for optional marketing, nonessential cookies and other consent-based processing. You may withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Consent is not the basis for all processing: necessary contractual or legal processing may continue on the relevant lawful basis.

We aim to use only the information necessary and relevant to the purpose concerned. The information required may differ according to the service, verification tier and applicable legal requirements.

03Who we share information with

We share relevant information with Loma Microfinance Bank Limited to provide banking services and carry out account-opening, identity-verification and related checks. Fintava supports the technology used to deliver those services. We also use verification providers, including Prembly, and other service providers where necessary to operate Worta.

Where applicable and necessary, information may be disclosed to credit reference providers for relevant credit assessments and reporting, and to professional advisers who assist with our legal, accounting or other professional obligations. We may disclose information to regulators, law-enforcement authorities or other persons where required or permitted by law.

We limit disclosures to relevant information and apply appropriate safeguards for service providers, including confidentiality, security and data-handling requirements appropriate to their role. Providers supporting Worta are not treated as unrelated external websites simply because they are separate organisations.

04How we protect information

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration and disclosure. The measures used take account of the nature of the information and the risks involved in processing it.

No method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Please protect your account credentials and device access, and report suspected unauthorised activity through our official support channels.

05How long we retain information

We retain information for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet applicable legal, regulatory, accounting, fraud-prevention and dispute-resolution obligations. Retention varies by the type of record and the purpose for which it is needed.

Closing your account does not automatically erase every record. Information that must be retained continues to be handled under this Privacy Policy. When information is no longer required, we take appropriate steps to delete it or otherwise handle it in accordance with applicable law.

06Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to and a copy of your personal information, correction of inaccurate or incomplete information, and deletion where lawful. You may also request restriction of processing or object to processing where those rights apply.

Where processing relies on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing lawfully carried out before it was withdrawn. Some information or processing may still be necessary to meet a legal obligation or administer an existing arrangement.

We may need to verify your identity before responding to a rights request to help prevent unauthorised disclosure. If a request cannot be fulfilled in full, we will explain the reason and any relevant next steps in accordance with applicable law.

To exercise your privacy rights or raise a concern about your information, contact privacy@worta.co. You may also lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

07Cookies and similar technologies

Our website and services may use cookies and similar technologies for functionality, security, performance and understanding usage. These technologies can help remember relevant preferences and understand how services are used.

Where legally required, we obtain consent before using nonessential cookies or similar technologies. You can manage available choices through the relevant controls and your browser or device settings. Restricting technologies needed for functionality may affect how parts of a service work.

08Marketing and service messages

Optional marketing choices are separate from the information needed to provide a service or respond to a support enquiry. Where consent is required for marketing, we ask for it separately.

You can unsubscribe from marketing messages at any time. We may still send essential account, transaction and security notifications.

09External websites

External websites linked from Worta may have their own privacy policies. Please review those policies before submitting information to them.

This section concerns websites you choose to visit independently through external links. It does not remove our responsibilities for personal information handled by service providers supporting Worta.

10Updates to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to our services, legal requirements or privacy practices. We will make the updated policy available and notify you of significant changes where appropriate. Please review the policy from time to time to understand how your information is handled.
